Menstrual hygeine, particularly for young girls , has always been an issue close to my heart.
I was therefore delighted to be the Special Guest of Honour at my alma mater, Accra Girls Senior High School’s 64th anniversary menstrual hygiene programme yesterday.
In my remarks, I noted that good hygiene practices are germane in ensuring our girls stay in
school, feel confident, and participate fully in their education.
Unfortunately, I noted, many girls still face challenges during their menstrual periods—whether it is the lack of access to sanitary products, limited knowledge about menstrual health, or the stigma that surrounds menstruation in our society.
I believe ardently that this narrative needs to change, because menstruation is an organic process and no girl must be made to feel ashamed about it.
Let us all continue to work harder to break down this stigma.
