The Empowering Better Life Foundation (EBLF) continues to lead the way in promoting mental health awareness and inclusion through advocacy and education. As part of its ongoing commitment to shaping positive narratives, the Foundation successfully hosted a Media Orientation Workshop on Responsible and Ethical Reporting on Mental Health and Special Needs at its East Legon office in Accra on 28th March, 2025.
Held under the theme “Breaking the Stigma: Responsible and Ethical Reporting on Mental Health and Special Needs,” the workshop brought together journalists, editors, and communication professionals from various media outlets. Participants engaged in open, thought-provoking discussions on how to portray mental health and special needs issues with accuracy, empathy, and fairness, emphasizing the media’s crucial role in influencing public perception and reducing stigma.

Throughout the session, facilitators and speakers underscored the need for sensitive storytelling, one that uplifts individuals and families instead of reinforcing stereotypes. The workshop encouraged journalists to adopt human-centered approaches in their reporting, highlighting resilience, hope, and empowerment rather than focusing solely on challenges.
The event had a profound impact on participants, many of whom shared how the insights gained would transform their newsroom practices. Several media professionals expressed renewed commitment to being champions of change by amplifying voices that are often unheard and ensuring that every story told promotes understanding and inclusion.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Alma Pokua Adade Prempeh, Founder and CEO of the EBL Foundation, reaffirmed the organization’s mission:
“Our goal is to create a society that listens, understands, and supports. By engaging the media, we are equipping storytellers with the tools to educate, inspire, and drive empathy, because responsible reporting has the power to heal and transform communities.”
The workshop also strengthened partnerships between EBLF and the media community, paving the way for continuous collaboration on mental health advocacy, ethical leadership, and awareness creation across Ghana and beyond.
The EBL Foundation extends heartfelt appreciation to all participants, speakers, and partners who contributed to making the event a success. Together, we are building a future where mental health and special needs are discussed with respect, understanding, and hope.
Because every story matters and how we tell it matters even more.
